Talkeetna

Talkeetna sits at the meeting point of three rivers - the Susitna, Chulitna, and Talkeetna - creating a natural hub for outdoor activities at 106 meters elevation.

The Alaska Railroad established Talkeetna as a district headquarters in 1916, leading to the development of businesses and the auction of 80 lots by 1919.

The Talkeetna Historic District preserves buildings from the early 1900s, while local artists and craftspeople maintain active workshops throughout the downtown area.

Located 2.5 hours from Anchorage, Talkeetna provides accommodation options and serves as the primary departure point for climbers attempting Denali expeditions.

The town maintained an unusual tradition of having a cat named Stubbs serve as honorary mayor from 1997 until 2017.
