Guangzhou Bridge, Stahlbrücke in Guangzhou, China.
The Guangzhou Bridge is a steel structure that spans the Pearl River and carries Guangzhou Avenue across the waterway, also passing over the eastern portion of Ersha Island. It measures approximately 1,240 meters in length and accommodates both vehicle and pedestrian traffic on its deck.
Completed in 1985, this structure became the third bridge to cross the Pearl River in Guangzhou during a period of rapid urban expansion. Its construction reflected the city's growth and the need to improve transportation links between developing districts.
The bridge forms a direct connection between the residential neighborhoods of Kecun and the modern business quarter where you find performance venues and museums. People use this crossing regularly as part of their daily commute between home and work areas.
Both cars and pedestrians can use this crossing, though the roadway carries significant traffic during peak hours. Visitors should expect busy conditions when commuting between the residential and business districts, particularly in the morning and evening.
The structure underwent significant reinforcement work to improve safety for river traffic, with collision prevention barriers added at four support pillars beneath the span. These upgrades made the crossing safer for both ships and the people who depend on it daily.
