Futago Bridge, Straßenbrücke in Setagaya, Japan
The Futago Bridge is a road structure that crosses the Tamagawa River and connects the districts of Setagaya and Takatsu using a steel girder design. It stretches 440 meters in length with a width of 11.1 meters and functions as part of the National Route 246 network serving vehicle traffic.
An earlier version was built in 1925 as a key river crossing for the region. The current structure replaced it in 1978 to better serve growing traffic demands between Tokyo and Kawasaki.
The bridge serves as a gathering point during spring when residents from both districts meet to observe cherry blossoms along the Tamagawa River banks.
The bridge carries regular car and truck traffic as part of the main route between Tokyo and Kawasaki, so visiting on foot offers views of the river and surrounding areas. Best times to walk here are early morning or evening when traffic is lighter and safer for pedestrians.
On clear days, Mount Fuji is visible from the bridge deck, offering a striking mountain view above the urban landscape. This makes the crossing a moment where nature and city meet in a single perspective.
