An earlier crossing stood at this location from 1866 to 1896, when a metal structure with three spans resting on stone pillars was built to meet transportation needs of that era. The current bridge replaced that original structure to accommodate modern vehicle volumes and infrastructure requirements.
The bridge features a concrete sculpture of a water nymph integrated into its structure, part of a broader collection of art installations along the Marne River. This artwork reflects the region's effort to blend infrastructure with creative expression for people passing through.
The bridge was renovated recently with a new pedestrian and cycling path added in 2023 that runs from Nogent-sur-Marne marina across to Tremblay Park on the other side. Walkers and cyclists should note the dedicated lane separates them from vehicle traffic for safer passage.
Extensive noise barriers line the bridge and its approaches, measuring roughly 500 meters in total, protecting the surrounding neighborhoods from traffic sounds. This engineering detail shows how residential comfort was considered during the design.
