Metro-Brücke über das Goldene Horn

The Golden Horn Metro Bridge spans the waterway with two tall steel towers supporting cables that hold up the structure. It carries the M2 metro line and serves as a crossing point between the districts on either side of the water.

Planning for this crossing began in the mid-1900s, but construction only started in the early 2000s after design changes were made. The project required careful adjustments to meet standards for protecting Istanbul's historical city.

Visitors typically see it best from the water or from the districts it connects, where the tall towers stand out above the cityscape. The swinging section opens occasionally to allow ships through, but these events are not scheduled for tourists.

A section of the bridge swings open to allow large ships to pass through the waterway, a feature that visitors rarely witness. This moving part operates silently and can open and close in just a few minutes when needed.
